The OpenVAERS Red Box Report

Dear ‍RP,

We are alarmed to report that as of November 18, 2022, VAERS has stopped sharing the free text field information in connection with vaccine injury reports from Europe and the UK. Prior to this change, the highest per capita number of VAERS reports came from the UK. To our knowledge it was not formally announced, instead, a strange disclaimer appeared at the bottom of the VAERS Data Sets landing page:

“Disclaimer: At the request of European regulators, CDC and FDA have removed certain data fields (country codes; reported symptom case narrative free text; diagnostic laboratory data free text field; illness at time of vaccination free text field; chronic conditions free text medical history field; allergies free text field) from foreign VAERS reports which were submitted to VAERS and may not comply with European regulations. Domestic (U.S.) VAERS reports are not affected by this process.” [https://vaers.hhs.gov/data/datasets.html]

As you can imagine, this change makes it very difficult to assess the safety of Covid-19 shots. Some of the totals and charts published by OpenVAERS relied upon data from these fields. While the domestic US data remains unaffected, other charts throughout the site are impacted. See this comparison that we prepared (and notice that the scales are different between the two charts because there are so many fewer reports as a result of this change):

Independent researchers around the world have expressed concern:

Quant genius Dr. Jessica Rose wrote two recent Substack articles describing the impact of these changes on her research:

• The foreign data set was gutted this week in VAERS and the cancer signal was halved, the myocarditis dose 3 response signal was lost and 994 spontaneous abortions/still births were dropped [https://jessicar.substack.com/p/the-foreign-data-set-was-gutted-this]

• It appears that one motive for the Foreign data set purge was to remove the MHRA reports from VAERS [https://jessicar.substack.com/p/it-appears-that-one-motive-for-the]

Dr. Clare Craig was matching VAERS reports to MHRA reports — this will no longer be possible going forward.

Aravind Mohanoor — a programmer [https://vaccinedatascience.substack.com/] was working on using the narrative field to retrieve AGE data where it was missing in the AGE fields.

And these are just the researchers we are already aware of. There are likely many more.

Here at OpenVAERS we have questions for the unnamed figures behind the curtain who are making these unilateral decisions:

• You claim that "European regulators" requested this change? Please share that request with the public.

• You claim that the foreign VAERS reports "may not comply with European regulations." Please name the regulations you are referring to and the ways in which this reporting process "may not comply" in your view.

• What other data in your possession is not being shared with the public? It appears that you maintain "two sets of books" — the actual reports that only you can see and then arbitrarily truncated reports that you share (after a long delay) with the public.

• Who is in charge of VAERS? Who makes the decisions about what data to leave in, what data to leave out, and when to release data to the public?

The decision to remove this European/UK data from VAERS adds insult to unprecedented vaccine injury. It is nearly impossible to draw clear conclusions from data that are being intentionally withheld and manipulated behind the scenes. This failure of transparency is contrary to scientific norms and will further erode public trust in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the CDC.

Thank you for sharing this information with others.
